Defining Her Future Conference
Project Description
I was part of the creative team which designed collateral - from flyers, to apparel, to digital signage, with the intent to promote the conference to a greater audience. I designed flyers, info cards, the conference program, and Facebook graphics.
Defining Her Future Conference This is an annual event hosted by Cal Poly Women in Business to help students on campus connect and learn while gathering leadership skills. This conference includes networking sessions and executive breakout panels to create and strengthen connections between students and professionals.
Marketing Committee (Creative) The marketing committee is in charge of overseeing all aspects of the entire marketing campaign. The creative team is responsible for creating captivating content that follows branding guidelines and targets audiences. Materials include promotional material such as flyers, social media, and digital signage.
About the Theme “Finding Your Why” is this year’s theme. This phrase signifies the purpose, intention, and future career in a person’s life.
THE PROCESS
Theme Discussion
At first, coming up with a theme was a bit challenging because we all had so many ideas as to what “Finding your Why” could mean. In order to narrow it down, we created a Pinterest board to record our ideas regarding the meaning of the theme and possible designs. In addition, we had a list
of possible meanings on a document that everyone could see. As we began making final decisions, Carly, one of the marketing committee members, brought up three words that stood out to us: Passion, Purpose, and Profession. These words related to the theme and we began incorporating them into our designs. We also saw “roads” as being an important part of the theme’s meaning.
Marketing Campaign
The marketing campaign consisted of different activities and materials in order to further promote the conference and get everyone excited for it. Before the conference, we plan on releasing a theme reveal video which will feature students and professors defining their why and talking about their passion, purpose, and profession. This will also become the Facebook Event Cover Photo so that those visiting the page can get a better idea of what the conference is about. Shortly before the conference, we will have
a chalkboard on Dexter Lawn so that people can share what their “why” means to them. Another component of the campaign will also include Instagram and Snapchat stories featuring different people from organizations sharing their “why.”

Long Sleeve Graphic
For the long sleeve shirt, we decided to come up with a logo that could represent the conference overall. We were aiming for
a simple graphic that could be worn by anyone and related to the theme “Finding Your Why.” We used our Pinterest board for inspiration and came up with different designs. Each person on the creative team came up with their own design for the long sleeve and we then decided that the road best fit the conference’s image.
